Making your ketchup at home has several advantages. You can adjust the ingredients to suit your taste and consume it without the fear of preservatives.
Here is the balsamic vinegar ketchup recipe for you to try at home
- Small tomatoes quartered – 5-6 cups (around 3 pounds)
- Balsamic vinegar – 1 cup
- Sugar/ brown sugar – ½ cup
- Mixed spice mix – 1 Tsp.
- Sea salt/ kosher salt - 1Tbsp.
- Cayenne pepper – ½ Tsp.
Simmer tomatoes with salt and vinegar in a thick bottomed sauce pan over medium flame. Simmer till the tomatoes are very soft (this may take around 15 minutes). Strain the mixture through a coarse strainer. Pour this mixture back into the sauce pan and add sugar while stirring. Simmer the mixture over medium flame till it thickens. Sprinkle ½ Tsp. of cayenne pepper and 1Tsp spice mix and stir to combine everything and that’s it! Your balsamic vinegar ketchup is ready. Transfer it into a clean glass bottle and refrigerate.
